Question:

Where I can get an authentic dinosaur egg fossil?

Looking for a source ideally that someone has used and could personally recommend to me. Is Ebay safe with regards to authenticity? An American based website would be fine, and I may submit a bulk order of 4 or 5 so discounts are useful.

  1. buying a egg or two shuldnt be difficult,  KNOWING for certin it's a 'dino' egg is the trick.  There were other lizards pryor too them, and they layed eggs as well.

There are also insect eggs around, and some of them were the size of some smaler dino's.. and there eggs were nearly as big.

Some of us have an affinity for the insect fossels, they are just as diverse and extroidinary as any dino ever was!!

Hi Couriosity... nice to run into you now and then.

  2. have a look at this, hope it helps.

The Dinosaur Store. Authentic fossils, dinosaur teeth, dinosaur claws ...

The Dinosaur Store - Authentic fossils, dinosaur teeth & dinosaur claws, dinosaur replicas, dinosaur eggs, shark teeth, meteorites,

    dinosaurstore.com -

  3. I have bought fossils from Merv in the past and have always been satisfied with my purchase. This man is a dealer in fossils and runs it as a small business. He does not deal in fakes and has enough knowledge to know the difference, based on my dealings with him. I buy samples from him to use in analytical tests. I sometimes run them through a CT scan which would detect a fake right away.

I would be very careful about buying fossils on eBay. There is no good way to determine if you are getting a fake or the real thing until you have already paid for it. There are some pretty realistic looking fakes on the market.

    Merv's website is:

    http://www.indiana9fossils.com/

    The eggs are at:

    http://www.indiana9fossils.com/Dinosaurs...

    EDIT:

I too looked at the Dinosaur store. For those prices, I could finance a couple of paleontologists to go to Africa or China and get my own, and still come out ahead.

  4. Some eggs that Asda sell are quite old and they do packs of six.

  5. If you are intent on doing this, I would insist on buying on approval.  That would give you time to have to  item examined by a professional.  Don't accept the sellers certificate of authenticity; get one yourself.  I wouldn't touch eBay with a ten foot pole!

    EDIT:

The Dinosaur Store that Elizabeth above suggests is probably reliable;  However, you are going to pay 5 figures for what you want!
