Where Was Tony Stewart Before NASCAR?

I heard he was in Open-Wheel. Since when?

Was he on dirt, or, F1, or, IndyCar?

Where was he before making the move to NASCAR? I never knew he was in Open-Wheel.

Just curious what type of Open-Wheel racing he did.

  3. i thought he raced dirt but i could be wrong i went to a dirt race track that him and kasey were racing at so i dont know

  4. As I recall he was with the IRL but I could be mistaken I know he came up from sprint cars

    sprint, Indy, go-cart, midgets, iroc, dang my mind went blank....... lol

  7. He was in Midgets and Sprint cars, then went to IRL and won the 1997 IRL championship.  Moved to the Busch series in 1998, then to Cup in 1999.

  11. Tony was a USAC Silver Crown winner and an IRL champion before starting in NASCAR. Tony started out by driving sprint cars.
