  1. I can help you out when it comes to Eastern US, but not Western.  In the Southeast, you have a few great options.  When there is rain, you can run Chattooga, Section IV which is full of big drops.  (We're in a drought right now though, so you'll have to depend on dam released rivers).  It is better to catch SE rain dependent rivers in the early Spring.  The Upper and Middle Ocoee are class IV and III+ respectively.  The Ocoee is a fun, bouncy, continuous river.  It's one my favorites to kayak.  If you want to step it up, you have the Cheoah.  It runs on a funny schedule.  It's a giant class IV creek in Western NC.  You can get some big thrills up in WV on the Gauley (Gauley Fest is Sept. 26-28) and the New.  Gauley is IV-V and full of drops and big waves. The New is similar.

If you're looking for rafting companies, here are some good options:

    www.noc.com

    www.endlessriveradventures.com

    www.narr.com

    www.aceadventurecenter.com

    Have fun and be safe!

  2. I love Fayetteville, West Virginia.  Use the crew called Rivermen, they will show you a good time plus the camp ground is awesome to party at.  Also they have Gully season in the fall which is when they open the controlled d**n for higher class rapids.

  3. I don't know the best but I really like the New River Gorge "rivermen" in West Virginia. It is very fun. Go to http://www.rivermen.com/

  4. There is no answer! Many  states have  great rafting rivers. The Wolf and Peshtigo and the Red in Wisconsin when they are up will scare you! Some rivers are simply dangerous because of their volume. Try the Colorado or the Arkansas. Another scheme...use a small raft on a big river!
