Where all can you travel without a passport?

Me and some friends are wanting to go on vacation this summer... I know you can go to Mexico, Puerto Rico, and Canada without a passport, but is there anywhere else?

Also, I heard something like, by Summer of '08, they're gonna require you to have a passport to travel to those places, but the exact date that that will be enforced has yet to be released. I think I read that on WikiAnswers or something. Does anyone know if that's true?

Also, is Puerto Rico a nice place to go? That's where we were wanting to go.

  1. A new law went into effect in January 2007 that stated crossing the US/Canada border by air requires a passport.

Implementation of regulations that require a passport for entry to Canada by land (car, train, bus, motorcycle, foot) and/or sea have been delayed until Summer 2008.  You are going to need a birth certificate, driver's license at a minimum.  (Much easier to cross if you have a passport..right now since I live on the border I carry a passport at all times.)

  2. Although it's true that you can travel to all of those places without a passport, be warned that you can't get back into the states without one.

  3. Puerto Rico & the US Virgin Islands are territories of the US, no passport needed, not even in the future :) Yes PR is a really nice place to go. San Juan is a modern city with Old Historic stuff too. Old San Juan is pretty & El Morro Fort is a must see. San Juan has shopping, nightlife, restaraunts, casinos & even  beaches. The best beaches are Vieques & Culebra Islands off the east coast of PR, you can go by ferry.  You can also go to the Bacardi Factory, Rio Camuy Caves, El Yuunque Rain forest, Arecibo Telescope, Taino indian parks, Bioluminescent bay, Rincon, Ponce & so much more! Check this out & see for yourself! You can visit the whole island easily.
