you can apply for a shotgun and firearms licence at any age however your wont be able to have a shotgun rifle or pistol or have any ammunition until you are 17. the best way to get one if you are under 17 is get your dad to get a licence and you can apply for a licence that is a mirror image of his. to get one go to your local constabulary or go to there website and download a form.

normally you must pass a hunters safety course at age 12, thus enebling you to purchass your hunting license at any retailer.  Although you must hunt with a parent/guardian untill age 16.  However in pennsylvania, the new mentored  youth hunting program allows children of virtually any age to begin hunting with a parent/guardian, and have the parent make a handwritten tag to be sent to the game commision on the childs behalf in the event of a kill(deer,bear,turkey)

I'm guessing your from the UK so i'll proceed with my 2 pence worth.

There is no age limit on a shotgun certificate. There is a minimum age of 14 years for a firearm certificate.

I suggest you apply for a co terminus certificate this will cost £60 and last 5 years. Its cheaper and there's far less paper work than 2 applications.

You will need to satisfy the police you have reason to hold a fire arm and your security arrangements are up to scratch. Vermin control or deer stalking will do as long as you can prove you have the sporting rights on the land.

Clay pigeon shooting, pest control or game shooting is a good enough reason for the shotgun cert.

Pop along to your nearest police station or registered firearms dealer (RFD) and pick up a form.

Fill it in, references, photos and £60 will be required.
