you want to kick the ball with your laces keep your knee over the ball, not a very good question.

your instep is your laces, smart guy.  sounds like youve been playing rec ball for those fifteen years of your life

You should hit the ball with your instep (inside of your foot).  In fact, that's how you should kick the ball most times.  People who say to kick the ball with your laces are idiots.  You only kick with your laces when your shooting, and even then you should still kick with the side of your laces, not down the middle.  Whenever you kick the ball, whether its a clearance or a cross, you should always have your hips and chest facing your target.  Where ever your hips are pointing, that's where the ball is going to go.  Some people put there hands up, others don't its basically a personal preference.
