Where and how to start learning dot net programming?

I am trying to learn dot net programming. But again, in order to learn it..you have to pick programming language ..either VB.NET or C#..need to learn asp.net..or visual web developer..SQL Server..I tried to start with Visual web developer..where you drag and drop buttons and then do the coding behind..Just lost as to where to start or need a suggestion..as I am also new to C# programming..the backbone of learning..Dot Net.Please advice.

  1. VB is simplest, C# is a bit more complicated.

    You could start e.g. with VB on the .NET Compact Framework for mobile devices on Windows.

    If you don't want to buy such a mobile device, you could download an emulator for your PC.

    That is probably easiest.
