The bicycle was invented around 1885 and the inventor is jan treak eppa from what I've heard of and it was invented because they had a choose to walk by foot or to ride on the back of an animal so they invented the bike for something a bit better. I think the bike is an improvement and bicycling because it it also one I've the best ways to exercise.I hope this helped a bit. Good Luck.

I suggest you read up on it yourself as cycle guy suggested. It is not clear who invented the 1st bike or what the definition of the 1st bike is. I wouldn't presume to name THE inventor as historians can't for certain. The bike was an evolution of design over many years. Many men contributed to it's early and final basic design.

And the why? Man has always looked for ways to improve life in general, transportation is simply part of of the quest. The bicycle is small, very efficient and quite fast compared to other options at the time. Also, it's quite fun!
