I'm a college freshman in Houston, TX who has relative in Sai Gon, Vietnam. I'll come back to visit them on winter break next year. I'm wondering if there is any place where I can volunteer (just helping, require no skill) only about 1 - 2 weeks. I'm a pre-pharmacy student so it's very important to have volunteer credit and I also want to volunteer in my country also. But I need to find a place that is creditable. Does anyone know or have any idea? Thank you so much.

  1. i know a house where hadicapped children and young adults from north viet nam come and stay in sai gon to learn simple trades and survival skills.. there have been voluteers there before and i guess than can always use help.. i dont know anything about "creditable" but it is "noble to help".. if you want i can put you in touch...

  2. if u wan to volunteer, then do it out of ur good heart, don't do it b/c u need the volunteer credit....ppl like u make me SICK.......if u want to volunteer in VN, then u can do it when u step ur foot on Tan Son Nhat International Airport, u can do it by cleaning the bathroom!...........

  3. The only thing I can add to Ong Jon's excellent answer is to talk to your academic adviser in Houston. They should be able to tell you what you need to know.

If they can't, then google Duke University. They have a program that sends college students to Vn for a semester. They would probably tell you how to get credit for any volunteer work. Although Nick P makes a valid point that volunteerism should be done from the heart, those of us born without the proverbial silver spoon in our mouths need all the credit we can get :-)
