  1. Mesas are made of sedimentary rock.  After they come out of the water, other areas are worn down around them.  As you look over the landscape, all of the mesas have roughly the same height.  The western U.S. has many areas of them.

  2. There are drumlins in North Dakota, New York, Wisconsin, Canada, and lots in Northern Ireland.

    - smooth oval hill of glacial drift or till

    - elongated — kind of cigar-shaped

    - may be more than 150 ft (45 m) high and more than 1/2 mi (.8 km) long

    - several photos can be seen at the following site - scroll down just over 1/2 way

    Mesa: (Spanish, “table”)

There are mesas in the south-western United States, particularly in Colorado and New Mexico but there are some in other states.

    -  forms from a plateau made up of flat, sedimentary rocks – the top layer is resistant to weathering

    - the sides of a plateau erode and a mesa forms

    -  the mesa normally stays the same height as the original plateau because the top is resistant to weathering

    -  common in arid regions

    - here's a photo of a mesa (volcanic one) in Idaho
