Where are environmentally safe areas to live?

Question

What I mean with this question is where in the United States are areas with the least amount of pollution and other chemical contaminants?

As well as, areas with good natural water and air.

California has the highest air pollution but that's mainly because of how many people live there. In reality, they have the strictest air pollution standards of any state. Within California, I'd say San Francisco is perhaps one of the greenest cities around. I was really impressed with some of the measures they've taken. For example, instead of having separate containers for recycling and trash they put them all together then hired a bunch of poor or homeless people to work in the waste facility sorting out recyclable materials. The recyclable materials (of course) are recycled and the non-recyclables are burned and turned into energy that heats many of the houses and buildings. I just though that was one of the coolest things in the world when I heard it. I think they're refered to as an eco-city because of the green measures they've taken.

What you need to do is find a place where it's safe and easy to get around by foot or pedal bicycle.  A lot of cities are too dangerous and sprawled to be worth walking.  Avoid San Franscisco (the Golden Gate bridge is closed to pedestrians at night).

maybe some of the deep south, areas of the southwest, the midwest,    the southwest is not bad, outside of the larger cities, phoenix, ect, but the southwest is growing, stay away from the factories,    the deep south, ga nc sc those areas ms al might be okay, parts of tx,    good luck where you live
