  1. For a short break, Fort William would make a great base.  Hire a care and it is possible to visit Ben Nevis and Fort Augustus - Nessy hunting, Glencoe, try and have a climb of Ben Nevis, take a trip to Malaig on the scenic railway.  Also, take a drive 'up the glen' round the bottom of Ben Nevis.  There is a youth hostel and camp site right at the bottom of Ben Nevis which was very good.

  2. Comrie

    Crief

    Sterling

  3. Mentieth.

    Stirling

    Edinburgh

  4. Go to the Isle of Skye, you get the island feel without the expense of catching a car ferry. Also you can travel to some islands near Skye on the ferry as a day out, and they are amazing.

Ullapool is also really lovely, it is a bit out of the way though.

The area around Inverness is nice too. You could stay in Inverness and venture out.

(I can't believe people said Stirling, Stirling should be avoided at all cost).

If you wanted a city break then I would suggest Edinburgh, and catching the train to Glasgow for the day (50 minutes by train).

  5. Aviemore

    Stonehaven

    Edinburgh

    Inverness

Depends what your wanting to do really, and what your into, who your travelling with..

  6. Pitlochry

    Perth

    Stirling

    Aviemore

    Fort William

    Oban

    Loch Lomond

  7. My number one choice would be Arran.  The island is small enough to give you that countryside, "escaping" from it all feel but then there is plenty going on in the main village to keep you entertained (pubs, restaurants, coffee shops etc).  The scenery is beautiful and the people are friendly.

There is also a distillary and soap factory (Arran Aromatics) which are worth a wee afternoon out.

    >> Also Aviemore is a good place to go and so is Ellie in Fife.
