Where are my neon tetras!

I bought 8. One is dead and we found him kind of stuck to the filter.

The other one has vanished so he must have been eaten.

In the tank are guppies, baby silver/bala sharks, 2 platies, two 3cm gouramies.

Have they eaten the neon tetra?

Since then we have been at 6 neons for 3 days..no more have been eaten.

We have now added 2 balloon guppies and 2 black mollies (one male and female)

Will they be okay ? :S :S

Oh and before, the one that was dead was not eaten he was just dead by the filter, and we only had 2 plants in the tank. Since then we have added 4 more and 2 ornaments/hiding places

  1. U need to see what fish respond well with other types of fish. we had a black and white molly, it went after the tetras, the gold fish, our neons, our sword tails. U need to do reaserch before adding fish, or else ur gonna have injured, sore and missing fish.

  2. They could have been weak or sick fish, or you didn't properly acclimate them to the water.  Probably the former.  One could have jumped out of the tank, or been eaten, if considerably smaller than the other fish.

  3. All I can say is that I've got 5 neons that I've had for at least 5 years. Mainly Gup's but others as well.

  4. Keep in mind BALAS need at least 75+ gallon tanks. These fish grow up to a foot, and any small tank will only shorten their life span and stunt growth. In the end more dead fish.

Without the Balas, you would need at least a 20 gallon tank for the other fish.

  5. first of all do you know your bala sharks can reach to 15inches? secondly bigger fish will always eat your little fish, and third did you try looking in the filter? my once beginner mistakes was I forgot to have those covering tips to put at the end of the filter pipe and it sucked my fish up into the filter box, and when I cleaned it out, there they were! lol!

  6. They were probably just ill or weak to begin with, and died off because of the stress. Bala sharks will eat them though when they grow large enough.

  7. you have done the right thing by adding more features and plants as neons like to hide espeicialy if they feel vonrable,  neons should get on with all of the fish that you have named because they are all community fish apart from silver/bala sharks but should be ok for the time being until they get bigger.

all depends on what size tank you have ?
