Where are quadratics use?

Tell me what industries that they are used in and what they are used for.

I am an Engineer but it would be difficult for me to explain how and why they are used because it is kind of difficult to explain.  It has to do with power system stability and making sure that the voltage is stable over a range of conditions.

I use them in about 10000 other situations but I can't list them all here.

They are not specifically applied to any group of problems.  They come up at times as a result of the interactions of variables.  For example, when studying projectile motion, kinetics, work, energy, etc, etc, the equations for any specific problem may simplify to a quadratic equation.
