  1. I have a sink hole in my back yard.

  2. we got some here in nc. they always are in our lake.

  3. FLORIDA HAS MORE SINKHOLES than any other state in the nation. They are an obvious feature of Florida's natural karst topography. Sinkholes provide a primary pathway for rainwater to replenish subsurface groundwater; they are an important part of the aquifer system that supplies 95% of Florida's drinking water.

Sinkholes also form from human activity, such as the rare but still occasional collapse of abandoned mines in places like West Virginia, USA. More commonly, sinkholes occur in urban areas due to water main breaks or sewer collapses when old pipes give way. They can also occur from the overpumping and extraction of groundwater and subsurface fluids.

Many sinkholes are also found in Northern Michigan. These are prominent in Alpena County in Northeast Michigan.

In the United States, the most damage from sinkholes tends to occur in Florida, Texas, Alabama, Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Pennsylvania.

The only ones that I have known of personally are in Hutchinson, Kansas and Seattle, Washington.

  4. Frederick Maryland has tons of them

  5. In the United States, the most damage from sinkholes tends to occur in Florida, Texas, Alabama, Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Pennsylvania.

  6. " Sinkholes occur worldwide, and in the United States are common in southern Indiana, southwestern Illinois, Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Florida."

Another site (very good site - well known) listed a few different states and had this to say, " The most damage from sinkholes tends to occur in Florida, Texas, Alabama, Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Pennsylvania. "

There is a map at this site showing the areas in the U.S. where sinkholes are possible.
