I know people always talk about going to beaches/resorts on OTHER Indonesian islands, but I will be traveling on the island of Java (mainly near the cities of Jakarta & Solo). If anyone has any tips on beaches and/or other place to go, I'd appreciate it!

  1. There're some beach near of Jakarta.

You may visit Anyer / Carita Beach which need 2 hours drive to destination from Jakarta.

Also you can go to thousands islands, you need go to Ancol - Local Beach Area or Marina and take a boat to see all this island. For your safety, I've recommend you to use the local travel agent to see this place.

Another place near Jakarta you can find Fish Market ( Pasar Ikan ), you can find the fisherman back from the sea in the morning. I've recommend you to see this place in the morning.

Well, there's lot of other nice places to see arround Jakarta.

You can visit the address below for details of interesting place arround Jakarta :

For Solo, please there's no beach there. It's the middle on island at Java.

You will find mostly art and shirt painting ( batik ). Also you may find nice traditional palace at Solo ( Kesultanan Surakarta )

    Hope it may help you..

Welcome to Indonesia and enjoy your stay....

  2. It's not to much special beach in Jva island, but some of the best of them are :

    1. Pangandaran beach

a large Beach placed in west java (Ciamis), beautiful, nice to swim, good place to surf (famous enough for world surfers), has a nature beautiful fenomena in "grand canyon", good tourisme facilities including hotels, restourant, or Bar, nice and helping peoples, with a nature conservation layed around the beach.

    2. Parang Tritis

Beautiful and famous beach placed in historical unique traditional and artistic city "Yogyakarta" in the center of Java. beach with its legend south ocean queen, Roro Qidul. nice to swim too.

    3. Ancol, Carita, and Anyer around Jakarta or Banten

  3. You're concentrating more on places that are enriched with cultures (In my opinion)..

If you want beaches, places like Kuta (Bali) or Lombok (West Nusa Tenggara) are the best, I've gone to Bali 3 - 4 times, and I think it's great, but I've never been to Lombok, but I heard it's almost as good as Bali.. Plus, both places are also very cultural too..

But anyway, beaches near Jakarta and Solo... Hmm,

I don't know about Solo, but Jakarta, there's this "Thousand Islands" or that's probably how you translate it into English.. In Indonesian, it's called PULAU SERIBU (Poo - Laa - U | Se - Ree - Boo).. It's located in the north of Jakarta, where Java Sea is situated... They do have many islands, but I'm not sure whether they have a thousand, and even if so, they're very small... But they do have beaches (I'm quite sure of it)..

My gramps' gone there once, and he thinks it's good.. I've never been there, but it does look nice for diving especially.. But I'm not too sure, especially as Jakarta's turning into a monstrous city like New York, the sea might not be as nice and clear as it's used to be (Contaminated)...

About Solo, I'm pretty sure (With my Geographic Skills) that it's located nowhere near the shores... But I'm quite sure it's located either in Central / East Java... Anyway, the best beach located near there are Jogjakarta (I'm not sure, it's famous for its Pagodas and Culture, not Beach - Check it out, I went there straight from Jakarta and it was worth it! To be away from the pollution and breathe a fresher air feels good).. But the best I've gone to is Pangandaran, it has a nice beach, or it HAD a nice beach.. I went there before a tsunami strikes (About 2 - 3 years before it happened), I don't know whether it has recovered...

But obviously ask the locals... Do you speak any Indonesian? People in Jakarta mainly speak English, but Solo? I'm not so sure,

So, you might want to have these stuff with you when you travel:

    > Maps (Can be bought in the streets?) - Make sure you know where you want to visit and just point it there and they might be able to help..

    > Translator / Indonesian Pocket Dictionary (A Must - not necessary in Jakarta, but is a must in Solo.. You're going to thank me later for this - Can be bought in Gramedia)

    > A Tour Guide (It's not a stuff, but worth mentioning)

    > Water, and lots! (Humid, and you're sweating a lot, need water)

  4. Please go to Thousand Island closed to Jakarta or you can go to Panaitan Island ( Ujung Kulon )at Banten Province if you are staying in Jakarta or if you stay in Solo you can go to Karimun Jawa Island at Java Ocean. Those are islands very fantastic. More detail you can see my webs at below!!!

    Cheers

  5. Well, Solo doesn't have any beach as it is located in the mid of the island. In Solo, you would like to visit the local crafttmanship furniture, etc.

While in Jakarta, the only and nearest beach getaway is pulau seribu ( you can on-board some ferry from Ancol and get to this isle).

  6. At near solo you can go to the Mount Lawu, here you could visit Tawangmangu wich has a Grojogan Sewu (Java Language mean "a thousand of waterfall"). In Tawangmangu there is many monkey you can interact with them. Then you could go to Telaga Sarangan (Sarangan Lake). There is a Lake at the +/- 1.200 m (+/- 3.600 feet) altitude.

Of course you will frustate to find a beach at Sol, because Solo located at the mid of Java Island.

The beach at Jakarta is Ancol, or you can go to Kepulauan Seribu (A thousand archipelago). Many maritime tourism package in there.

Or you could go to Taman Safari (Safari Park) about 60 km fr Jakarta. In there many of Flora and animal, and so the fresh air and beautiful tea plantation and montain view
