I have no experience looking for fossils, but i think it would be fun as a weekend activity. Are there any places in california where i can expect to find some interesting fossils?

  1. usually dry places (deserts) you should probably do some research on places where there is evidence of animal remains, and where recent digs have happened. And looking for fossils on the side of a building may cause you to look insane. Also, don't interfere with the palentologists.

  2. There are fossils of bivalve mollusks on the top of Mission Peak in Fremont.

The exterior of the Hewlett Building on the Stanford Campus is covered with mudstone with lots of bivalve and gastropod mollusk shells.  It's very cool, but most students pass by without even noticing.

You can go to the Valley Life Sciences Building on the Berkeley campus.  There are displays of some really great fossils including a cast of a T. rex.
