Where are the anti-war protests against Russia?

These are just my ideas why there hasn't been a huge swell of protests, NOT personal opinions/excuses, etc.

1. It's possible it is so "new", there hasn't been much outrage.  The situations in Darfur and Rwanda (in the 90's) went on for a while before people starting mobilizing opposition. Darfur is still on a lot of people's lips.

2. A lot of people may not feel affected because: 1. it's "someone else", not the US, 2. people may not know anyone affected personally, where most people at least know of someone in the US Military.  You could probably count the number of Georgian residents in some cities on no fingers.

3. Picking battles  There are many, many horrible situations going on around the world, and you just can't quit your job and protest this on Monday morning, that on Monday afternoon, and so on, all throughout the week.

4. Compassion fatigue. It's also easy to say "Bad things are going on all over the world, this is just another example, what's on ESPN?"

So I'm guessing people don't feel as connected to this as the war in Iraq.  Not that that is a good excuse.  I honestly am no expert on the situation, but it might be wise to remember what MLK said about "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere".

I'm in Houston, which has a substantial Russian community, not so much for Georgian.  So (at least myself) haven't heard a lot of anti-Russian sentiment.  We have/had a decent Argentinian population, so there was a lot of anti-GB sentiment during the Falkland Islands conflict.

Before the pasty, angry, overweight, dating/socially challenged of the net jump in to denounce me as liberal/conservative, whatever, these are just my thoughts on why.  Instead of venting anger on strangers, try talking to girls. They are pretty cool.

As usual, the protesters do not care if the war is in another country, they care about the US as that's their country.  It's like a parent with a child.  If other children are doing something that your mother doesn't like, she doesn't yell at the other children, she just yells at you for doing what she doesn't like.  She really don't care if all the other kids are doing it or not, only if you are.

This question assumes that liberals aren't against Russia doing this.  They are.

And this is precisely one of the major reasons that so many are now against the war in Iraq.  They were very much for it when they were told that it was to protect us; we ALL found out later it was all based on lies.

NOW there is an actual threat against freedom for an ally, and we CAN'T do anything about it.  How do you plan on stopping them?  

We can't threaten Russia, they know full well our troops are tied up in Iraq defending against a threat that never existed.  Now a threat exists, but we no longer have the power to do anything about it; and it is precisely because we are in Iraq that we can't.

So anti-war protests are all well and good, but Bush has showed that they are fairly irrelevant.  What is needed is something that can actually scare a mini-dictator (as BOTH Putin and Bush are).  And the honest fact is that we don't have anything to scare Putin and Medvedev anymore, precisely because of Iraq.

So before you attack the liberals for being so laid-back on this one, remember first that they want it stopped, and more importantly remember that the reason we can't stop it is because of Bush and the free ride that you Republicans gave him.

So well done.

I reiterate that the past 8 years have proven to liberals that protests do not work.  

If Bush, inept as he is, can still find ways to circumvent the law, how much more so can Medvedev and Putin do so.  We need something to scare them.

If we had done impeachment when it mattered, nearly 4000 Americans might still be alive today.

And now if we had troops that weren't tied up in a war without justification, we'd have something that would actually STOP this war in the Caucusus.  We'd have an actual threat that Putin and Medvedev would understand.

Protests don't work; if they don't work in our country how can they work in a country that could give a d*mn about us?  Troops work.  But we have none to commit to this fiasco; and that is directly related to what Bush did in Iraq and the Republicans who let him have his free ride.

So blame liberals all you want; the truth is that the Republicans are at least as much to blame, if not moreso, for this.

It doesn't involve us.  It's not a threat to our national security.  We shouldn't be involved in the internal affairs of other countries.

Georgia sent in troops to crack down on a separatist movement in South Ossetia, where Russia had peacekeeping forces.  A large portion of the 70,000 citizens in South Ossetia are Russian citizens with passports.

South Ossetia wants independence - just like we did about 232 years ago.  I'm all for them having independence.  My nose doesn't belong in their business.

I guess I just don't really care that much.  Feel free to give me the thumbs down.  I'm just tired of the U.S. being expected to react to every situation that occurs in the world. Our military and financial resources are thin as it is.

First off, Russia is not America.  It is a duty of all americans to voice their opinions when we feel the country is taking the wrong path.  Why would we protest against russia when they dont give a sh*t?  Second, Georgia attacked a Russian ally first, and completely destroyed 10 cities and killling god knows how many civilians.  Russia has many of its own citizens in the country that was attacked so its not surprising that they retaliated.   I do think that russia is going overboard with the retaliation by striking Georgia oil fields and cities, but then again, both sides are wrong.  Its just a crappy situation where both sides dont give a sh*t about the people and are just killing eachother like crazy.  So, if there were to be an anti-war protest, it would have to be against both georgia and russia.   Georgia for starting the conflict, and russia for going overboard retaliating.  Oh and by the way, dont be another mindless liberal/conservative basher.  America is too good for that kind of petty political theatrics.  And, it pretty much destroys all intellectual credibility you may have had.
