  1. All 3 of those are great, crowded but great. Tulum is also nice as well as Puerto Morelos. Puerto Morelos is the less known one and rentals are much cheaper.

Merida is great. I stay there for 2 months a year. The closest beach to Merida is Progresso. Merida is beautiful with alot of colonial influence. Alot more international tourist and local sites. There you will see how the wealthy Mexican live. You are also very close to Uxmal, with is worth seeing and to the cenotes (underground springs) in Valladolid. If you are there on thurs-sunday, check out the old downtown area. That is the area that comes alive at night.

  2. Near the ocean

  3. Pretty much all of Cancún is one beach that stretches over 14 miles.  Isles Mujeres and Cozumel are also similar to what you will find in Cancún. They are all very white powdery sand and beautiful blue turquoise waters of the Caribbean. They are all beautiful!

  4. If you know how Cancun hotel zone is shaped, it is shaped like the number 7. I would say that just about all of the beaches below the bend in the number 7 have good beaches. That is the side with the waves. That includes from Salvia hotel down to around Club Med. The hotels at the top of the 7 are more of the bay side, with few waves, and the water isn't as clear and pretty. Isla Mujeres and Cozumel have nice beaches also. Haven't been to Merida, but it is a historical city.

  5. Playa Del Carmen is beautiful- it is about 45minutes south of cancun and from there you could take the ferry over to cozumel which is about $12 one way. Cozumel is a wonderful island with places to go on the beach just walking down the sidewalk a little ways away from the pier. Anoth beautiful place to go is tulum which are some mayan ruins about another 45 minutes south of playa and only costs @ $3 one way to get there and another 3 to get in and there is a beach there for you to swim in that is also beautiful. Here's a pic of the beach at tulum

  6. The whole Mayan Riviera is really a very long stream of amazing beach. Beautiful as in sand and turquoise water, yes, the most beatiful ones are in Cancún itself. Cozumel is more for diving. I really recommend Tulum and Playa del Cármen.
