Where are the best locations for photography in Australia?

I'm planning some photography expeditions, and want people's opinion on where the best sites are, preferably close to NSW as I'm Sydney based and don't want to drive for 3 days to get there at this stage.

Don't suggest internationally famous sites such as Uluru, or Katoomba, because I'm aware of these, and I want to see something a little rarer, or unkown.

  1. The cliffs south of Bundeena in the Royal National Park make some beautiful photographs. Catch a ferry over from Cronulla an ask for directions to cliff walk. If you do the entire walk there is some camping places midway to Otford.

Very well known with hikers but so well known in the wider community.

One nice photo I have is of a pure white rock pearced above a cliff that looks like ice. Also seen some remarkable photos after rain when waterfalls plunge into the ocean. Long walk though maybe you will not need to go far to get some wonderful pics!

  2. Here are some links to places you might want to go to on your photography expedition. The pictures on these websites are unbelievable and truly beautiful!!!

Wollomombi Waterfall: Located east of Armidale, which includes a single drop of 100 m. Sometimes quoted as Australia’s tallest waterfall, but this is only if it is measured from its highest point, where the land has a much gentler gradient and the water does not truly ‘fall’.220 meters (100m as single drop) http://www.ga.gov.au/education/facts/lan...

Ellenborough Falls, NSW: Perched on the edge of the New England Tableland, just north of Taree, Ellenborough Falls is regarded as Australia’s tallest single-drop waterfall.160 meters (single drop) http://www.ga.gov.au/education/facts/lan...

The Great Lakes of New South Wales:  Consist of Myall, Wallis and Smiths Lakes, with a total area that is four and a half times the size of Sydney Harbour and totals more than 1,300 square kilometres of waters. About one third of The Great Lakes has been set aside in National Parks and State Forests. With many beaches along its 145 km of Pacific coastline, there is much to enjoy on and along it’s waterways.

Copeton Waters State Park: Located in Inverell
