  1. I would take your guests down to Ocean Village Marina, some nice places to eat sit and drink there. Plus you have a beautiful view of the marina to gaze at..

  2. Southampton town centre is a bit of a desert for good restaurants. There are places that will cater for you but please expect to be disapointed at their poor value for money. The only exception I know of is Kuti's.

Most of the other places described below are close to railway stations with good direct trains from Southampton, and are also on bus routes if you're interested.

If you like Indian food then one of the very best is Kuti's Brasserie in Southampton. It is not the cheapest in the area but is certainly the best (prices for all eating out in south Hants are about 30% higher than the Thames Valley or West London).

If you like Thai and don't mind going north to Romsey (about 5 miles) the try Suan Thai. Probably the second best Thai restaurant in the county, certainly better than Southampton town centre ones,  and quite big enough for your party.(parking in nearby car park free after 4pm, or it's 9 mins walk from the station if you have a town map).

For Chinese, the acknowleged best is the Riverside restaurant at Bursledon, by the River Hamble, (5 mins walk from Burseldon railway station). It doesn't look fancy from outside but you are going for the food.

If you're wanting good English cooking then you're probably in for a bit of a disapointment near Southampton.

If you're prepared to go into the New Forest then try the White Buck at Burley (about 30 mins from Southampton and no rail or reasonable bus access). It's a beautiful location and their food is superb, excellent fish specialities too.

They're good at catering for all sizes of special occasion parties.

I've eaten at a lot of places in the area and these are the best that I've found so far. Follow the links below.   Bon apetite.

  3. As an "ex-pat" Sotonian I must defend my home city.

Oxford Street is a good place to start.  Either Oxfords or for something more traditional, the Oxford Brasserie has been serving fantastic food for at least 25 years.

Ennios and Regatta at Town Quay are good, and if you want something a little bit livlier, how about La Lupa in High Street or Marguiritta at Town Quay.

Merchants at Ocean Village is a stylish venue - and if you don't mind travelling to Shamrock Quay there is the wonderful TAPs still run by my old friend, Alfred.

So many fond memoies of Southampton - and many fantastic meals too !

  4. Depends where you are having the wedding but if you are in the city centre, head to Oxford Street.  Oxfords is nice and I have heard that White Star is too.  Buon Gusto, by the Mayflower, was always nice too.   There are all sorts of restaurants down there so plenty to choose from.  If you are on the outskirts, Regina's in Botley is lovely and there is a new restaurant in Bishops Waltham that is nice.  Think it is called Banks Bar Bistro.

  5. JUST outside the city you have a place called "Finders Keepers"

good food last time I was there.

  6. The Regency is ideal for wedding parties.
