I usually travel to Northern California to do WhiteWater Rafting trips and such, but I want to start doing some canoeing/kayaking and/or other water sportsl in my area. Does anyone know where would be the best places to go in the San Bernardino Area? Thanks! 8-)

  1. There are some really small lakes near you, but I'd head east to the Colorado River, if I were you.  Best time is after Labor Day, and before Memorial Day.  Less big boat traffic.

  2. There are virtually NO areas in San Bernardino County that offer any whitewater sports. There IS the Colorado River, however. There is also an area just west of Palm Springs called Whitewater, but I don't think there's any actual water there, it's more of a dry gulch. You could try Big Bear Lake, but that's more flat water. There's also Domenigoni Reservior, near Riverside. Much of San Bernardino County is very dry, as it's all desert.

There is often some good-to-fair kayaking along the Kern River near Kernville, which offers some class 3-3.5 rapids, and a nice little river slolom course right in town. But that's way up in Kern County, outside of Bakersfield.
