Where are the best places to go surfing in the U.S.?

i really wanna get out there and go surfing one day but dont really know the ups and downs of it really...i read a book on how to surf and it seemed understandable...do you have any tips about it that i should learn?

The best places for beginners are in florida but after you get the hang of it you might want to check out hawaii.
