  1. The islands close to Turkish coast, preferably Turkish coast would be cleaner and cheaper.

  2. Take asimenias advice about Monolithi. The Ionian see is open all around so the water is always clean, clear and cool.I wish I was there right now!!! Yia sou.

  3. Just got back...I liked Elafonisi on western crete.

  4. I live on the mainland (Epirus) and Monolithi in Preveza has been awarded the blue flag - meaning a clean beach/sea.

You can check out the blue flag beaches at

    http://www.blueflag.org/blueflag/2008/Gr...

  5. Chios, a north Aegean island, is known (amongst other things) for its clean beaches and clear water. This is mostly because we lack one of the primary polluters - people! This is especially true of the northwest of the island. Even now in July you can have a whole beach to yourself. If you would like it more lively there are a few good beach bars nearby or aim for the south east of the island which is a bit more touristy.

Chios has 4 Blue Flag beaches but flags are awarded to clean 'organised' beaches because of all the other criteria that must be met. Depending on what you look for in a beach, this does not necessarily make them the 'best' beaches in an area.

Chios is a very beautiful and interesting island - worth considering. The links will show you more than these few words.......
