  1. The Calgary Police website maintains a database of community crime stats.

    http://www.calgarypolice.ca/news/stats_c...

This comes in handy sometimes for people looking to move to Calgary and wants to know where to shop for houses. I know we did a few years back when we purchased our house.

For Edmonton, a quick search led to this page for crime stats:

    http://www.edmontonpolice.ca/crimefiles....

  2. both cities are completely safe by any international standard, no trouble will come looking for you

  3. It's not that bad, and there are hardly any murders, or any crimes like that.

Calgary is fairly safe, and you can even walk downtown at night, just stay where there are people and away from dark alleys.

LRT stations are prone to be dangerous, there have been sereval stabbings and the like there.

Just remember that Calgary's hate crimes against other cultures/races is the highest in Canada, but it's never physical danger, it's usually property damage.

I think Edmonton is worse from what I know, but I'm not that sure. It might be the same as Calgary, seeing they are both around the same size.

  4. if a sure place to live... come to caracas , venezuela here is really denger

    sorry about my english

  5. Generally Calgary is a safe city considering the size.

However, as someone who has lived in Calgary for several decades, there are definitely areas of the city that are "safer" than others.  For instance avoid the NE and Forest Lawn.  Not to say that there are not good people living in these areas but there tends to be more violence and crime in these areas.  Downtown is not as safe as it used to be.  However, areas like Mission/Cliff Bungalow, and Connaught (west of 8th Street Sw and south of 16th Street SW) are great as long as you stay in well lit areas.

Edmonton, crime wise has the same concerns as Calgary.

  6. Calgary is a safe city by most standards unless you go looking for trouble or you're just plain unlucky enough to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. I'd pick it in a heartbeat over most other major NA cities. Edmonton seems to have more native gang activity (less than Winnipeg) but Calgary is catching up with Asian gangs (less than Vancouver).
