  1. Coming from Australia, I found Europe fairly expensive, as the Euro exchange rate does not favour us!

In Rome I spent very carefully, thinking the prices were quite high, but I was sorry later because where I went as we went further north, I found it became more and more expensive.

This was for things like souvenirs, I should say, as I did not buy much in the way of clothing, although I bought a couple of scarves and they were pricier the further north i went.

Venice was the most expenive of all, mainly I think because eveything has to be brought there by boat, so that adds to the cost.

I think Rome could be cheaper because there is so much competition, but that could be different if you have a chance to go to the shops local people use in Florence. I doubt Venice will be cheaper though, because of the transport issues.

  2. Rome there are many shops. Florence is quite exspence.

  3. It's not true because there always have been a line that goes from the most expensive cities which are Venice for example down to Florence and then Rome. Rome is cheaper than all these cities and has more choice And if you really want to know, this my opinion is genuine as real roman working as tour guide in the eternal city. 4. Between weakness of the U.S. dollar vs. the Euro and the over-inflated prices in the tourist areas of Rome, Florence, and Venice, you may not be able to find the deals you want to find.  You can haggle with some of the shops if you buy 2 or 3 of an item, but nothing is going to be "really" cheap.

Just go there are enjoy the ambiance, food, people, and sights.  :-)

  5. Depends what kind of shopping you are into. Go to the markets - and bargain. Supermarkets sell many things besides food relatively cheap. Small 'mesticherie' have great and cheap household/home/hardware stuff.  Not far from Florence there are also some nice designer outlets.
