Lurking Spiders

They arrive wearing

white shirts,

black ties,

expensive suits

fat wallets...

They linger as

threatening spiders,

weaving webs

of deception

in the halls,

on the front steps,

and in small closets

of back rooms.

They are

black widows

and brown recluses,

creeping along

feeding on others

focused on

self-interests,

without regard

to any other

living thing.

They give

money for favors,

to insure

high prices

in every commodity,

from drugs to oil,

from AAA to XYZ.

They pollute

the land.

They pollute

our bodies.

They pollute

our government.

They are called

lobbyist but they

are the spiders

capturing every

living thing

in their web

and eating all

from top to bottom.

Step on them.

Squash them.

Sweep them away,

before there

is none

of us

left.

  1. Everyone has a costume - the business suit has the "worst" reputation. Worn by lawyers and politicians - this dress code carries an aura of subterfuge and deception. However, this same suit may be worn at funerals and weddings - what then its meaning? Is it then - that the classification is the problem - not all spiders are bad. ♥
