Where are the nails before they grow back?>

Question

What I mean is,

when we cut our nails, it becomes shorter, obviously.

And then later on, it grows back.

when the nails grow back, where does it root from. from inside of our skin?

To put it simply,

where is the nail that growsback ?

The growing point is about 5-8 mm beyond the cuticles. You can see this if you push (gently) the tip of a fingernail up and down with another finger or your thumb. Fingernail material is made there, and it pushes out as it is made.
