I'm traveling there later this month and hiking the Cinque Terre.. After that I'm not sure if I should keep heading South or head East to the other Coast... Are there any really nice little cities you'd recomend? I'd really consider and check up on your suggestions. Thanks!

  1. I don't know about nicest since I haven't been to all the cities here in Italy and every place has something interesting to see and do. In my view, places are different, not better or worse.

However, there are a lot of choices. Mantova and Ferrara northeast of Cinque Terre are both interesting. Going east from Cinque Terre, if you stop at Pisa to see the tower, go on to Lucca for the rest of the day - the old walled part of the town is good. There's also Siena which is excellent. Arezzo is interesting too - the old hill town. Perugia is worth a visit. If you're there, go on to Assisi which is nearby too. Closer to Rome, Orvieto and Tivoli are both worth visiting.

  2. What's your definition of 'little' city? Agreed Pisa is nice but you can't go past Florence which is magical. If you decide to keep heading south past Rome the Almafi Coast is amazing too. Try Positano. Expensive but gorgeous!

  3. Pisa - The Leaning Tower of Pisa

Naples - The best pizza ever!

Pompeii and Herculaneum - If you like history and Archaeology

    Hope you have fun :).
