  1. See if The Queen is taking in lodgers,I understand Buckingham Palace is well protected.

  2. Well, if Jacquie Smith doesn't feel safe walking in Kensington, ain't nowhere safe in London.

The Antipodean areas, (Shepherd's Bush and around there) seem to be relatively safe because they're all filled with Australians, rather than chavs and hoodies.  The downside is that they're filled with Australians, so you won't meet as many varied people.

  3. NOT in East London, I go to University there, my bit of the area is great, but East London have some of the poorest places in London.. Somewhere in the North or Central have the greatest places... Come over and Look around before you move.. Or talk it through a international house letting agents in your place.. if you have one.

  4. Peckham, Camberwell, Dulwich, Finchley, Hampstead, Balham, Golders Green, Southwark.

  5. join the rest of the thousands of actors in london, i admire your optimism, most of the actors/dancers/muso's i know spend there lives working at something else to pay their bills.

i have lived in london for 15 years and have lived in most parts of it.  i like the east end best.  it has the most soul and is relatively cheep (nothing in london is actually cheep).  if you had money then i would say richmond, chiswick or twickenham. theres a lot of artistic types in west hampstead and highgate but also not cheep. i would go for the edges of docklands for afordability and community (some of docklands is fabulous but very expensive), maybe poplar or the isle of dogs and unless you have a good income you will definately be sharing.

i would stay away from the royal docks, especially beckton. streatham and brixton are pretty run down.  lets face it though outside docklands (much of it is new) even the afluant areas look pretty run down. even kensington has a crappy side.

hammersmith is ok, give acton a miss, wimbledon is nice and parts of clapham are cool. islington is ok. definately not hackney. elephant is pretty horrid. balham is livable and parts of tooting. ealing is ok

    anyway

    good luck

  6. no such thing at a safe area in london.....i lived there for 37 years and got the h**l out last year and movd to newquay, cornwall. Best thing i have ever done in my life. They should put a great big out of order sign on london...It is the cesspit of the world|!!!!!

  7. live in east london

  8. Much like Manhattan, in London you can walk 200 yards and be in a completely different neighbourhood.

St. John's Wood, Maida Vale and Pimlico are all worth a look, and rather bizarrely Covent Garden, bang in the centre, is now cheaper than Hoxton and Shoreditch  - ex slums in the inner East End.

Hampstead and Highgate are traditional actresses haunts.

If you want a flat share it might be worth asking around the drama schools - sometimes cards get put up on notice boards.

    Hope you enjoy your stay.
