I am watching UIM Powereboat P1 series on SPEED, and was wondering where the water inlets are on the boats. Often the only point touching the water in the s***w, but looking at the water coming out of the exhaust, it is not constant.

  1. They're in the lower units, and on racing drives they can be on the lower forward end of the bullet as well as on the sides.

  2. maybe there isnt any see if there is a rad???

  3. Boatman is right.  The lower unit contains a water pump that is driven off of the vertical drive shaft.  The water comes in through inlets in the drive and gets pumped up to the engine.

  4. The water inlets are usually in the lower units. There are times when that is blocked off and a thru hull pickup is used.

  5. Look up the design.

Clearly they are aft in the hull...for ward of the prop shafts. The exhaust water not being constant clearly indicated that the intakes aren't always in the water.

    Pretty simple stuff.
