  1. I recently changed pounds to euros, I'm from rome, and although I tried only two places, don't change the money at the airport (I mean not ALL the money, but of course you need to get to Rome someway). Don't change the money at Termini Train station, always a place for travellers, so the change is not good. Bureau de change is good but not every where, I found a cheap one right on Piazza Venezia (venice square), before to enter Via del Corso, ten meters on the right, it's an all orange point.

    enjoy rome

  2. you can find the best exchange at the office near MCDonald at the Spanish steps

ps don't go to the banks..

  3. First at the change office at the airport

  4. Any bank will do it for you over there.

  5. Major banks or exchange bureaus

    nevertheless search "exchange bureau rome"

    Also,

I think the US embassy can help you if any of the above are closed.

  6. Rather than carrying a lot of cash, you're better off using credit cards and bringing your ATM card. Bring a little cash; the best rates will be at banks. However, you can get euros from any bank ATM that's on the same international circuit as your home bank. These are widely available - here in Italy the name is Bancomat rather than ATM. In the small city where I live there are over 30 places that accept my card from the US.

  7. American Express!! First they don't have the half day banking hours that Italian banks do. And they don't go on strike as Italian banks do!! And if your a card member they waive the exchange fees.
