Where can I bring a broken dehumidifier for recycling and/or proper disposal?

Our dehumidifier broke after running constantly for the last 3 years. I don't want to throw it out, but I have no idea what to do with it. We live in the Philadelphia suburbs. Does anyone know where I can bring it for recycling and proper disposal?

  1. Well there's probably a metal coil inside of it.

You can use this to make your own ethanol for your car.

Don't drink anything that comes out of the coil.

What ur going to do is take it outside and cut the coil away.  Use safety glasses.

For making your own alcohol, ur going to need a 50 pound bag of corn flour, 5 lbs of sugar and 1 pound of yeast.

Your going to need a metal vat to hold those ingredients.  The metal vat would preferably be stainless steel for you are going to heat the bottom of it to a high temperature.

MIx the mash once a day, and let it sit for 1 week.

Any vapors coming off the boiling of the "mash"

have to be collected and then directed into your Coil, the coil should be immersed in Cold Water,   then at the other end of the coil you'll have 50/50 ethanol.

the 50/50 means  50% water and 50% ethanol.

For engine use, you will then have to distill this 50/50 mixture, 4 more times to get it to 99%.

  2. You may want to contact The City of Philadelphia Recycling Hotline at 215-685-RECYCLE (7329)

They should give you the proper information you are looking for.

  3. A dehumidifier has a cooling unit in it that must be purged of refrigerant before it is sent for recycling.  It should be disposed of the same way as a refrigerator or freezer.

  4. I may be thinking WAY too much...but I think a dumpster would suit your needs.
