  1. The law on fireworks is complicated - basically you can only buy them a few days before, and a couple of days after certain traditional celebration days.

    The main ones are 'Guy Fawkes Night' (Nov. 5th),   New Year, and a couple of 'ethnic' ones.  (I think Diwali, and Chinese New Year or something.)    During that period they are sold over the counter in grocery stores, newsagents etc.
