Where can I buy French rail (SNCF) tickets in New York City?

I'd like to buy tickets for rail travel during an upcoming trip to France. I would need an agency that not only can book/sell tickets, but that could provide schedule information and maps. Anwhere in the New York Metro area is fine.

  1. God rillifane is full of c***. That's twice his week I've pulled him up on a bad answer. Here is the US site of Raileurope, you can buy your tickets online:

    http://www.raileurope.com/us/index.htm

as Sncf won't send tickets to the USA, you would have to pick them up on arrival.

Lucky for rillifane there's the "edit" link so he can re-word his answers and try to make me look silly...

By the way, rillifane, you gave another incorrect answer about titre de sejour earlier today to someone else...check "hec"s answer below yours on that Q so you don't make the same mistake again... http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/ind...

  2. You can't. The reason is that a court ruling in the USA says that SNCF would be amenable to law suits in the USA if they sold their tickets in the USA. So SNCF chooses not to do so.

However, you can book your tickets on-line and pay for them on-line and then collect them when you arrive in France.

You can use this website (in English) http://www.voyages-sncf.com/dynamic/_SvH...

NB: Rosbif, I suggest you re-read my answer. It is correct as written. You can't buy them in New York City you have to buy them online and pick them up in France.

NB2: Well, it seems that I'm now attracting my own little crew of trolls. I'd heard from other people who are "Top answerer" in their favorite category that this happens but this is the first time I've actually seen it. One wonders what sort of personal defect causes people to do this.

NB3: the answer about the Carte de Sejour is also correct as written. Given that it refers the questioner to the French Embassy's own web pages on the subject it would be very odd if it were wrong.

  3. WTG rosbif had enough of this guy rillifane. He may be a top CONTRIBUTOR but he's not in the top 10 best answers for France-general or for Paris...looks like he gives a lot of rubbish answers to a lot of people who need real advice. With you on raileurope, used them myself, excellent service all-round and it's all in English!
