Question:

Where can I buy Italian train tickets online? I need tickets for May 3rd. Should I buy them online?

I will be arriving in Milan May 3rd. I need train tickets to Locarno, Switzerland. The Trenitalia site lists a single route that fits with my schedule. Unfortunately, their site won't sell me the ticket and their call center is horribly broken. I've read online that tickets can usually be picked up in Italy. My concern is that I need to be in Locarno that same night and I'd rather not have to shift my schedule around in the event that I can't get tickets once I'm there. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

  1. I'm having the same issue. If you have a layover somewhere in Europe you may be able to buy tickets in the airport. You can use a third party if the premium is worth it. I've also heard of people going to AAA or a travel agent. Make sure to try and get the Amica rate 20% discount. I'm going in early May too, I'm hoping since it's before the heavy tourist season we'll be okay.

  2. Sure that u can buy the tickets online...The website is this:

    www.ferroviedellostato.it

There is the english version in this website. Its not so diffucult to buy online and u will print a sheet with ur ticket..Then u will show it when the train's controller will ask u.

U can also but the ticket at the station, but its better if u do that before, cause here in italy 1 may its a national holiday, so a lot of people will use the trains, so its better if u dont risk..

    Byeeeeeeeee

  3. The italian national train company....

    Ferrovie dello Stato

    Here is thier website

    http://www.ferroviedellostato.it/

(they have a page in english).

  4. I know when I was in Rome, I bought a train ticket in about 2 minutes from a machine, the machines are step by step and easy to use, they are also in English which helps!

  5. Try the Swiss train company

  6. Yes, Trenitalia can be evil. Their website will sell you domestic tickets (if it's actually working) but not "international" ones requiring reservations.

Your best bet is to write/print the schedule on the website, or the Swiss train's website, and then book & purchase the tickets as soon as you arrive in Milan. The yellow ticket machines may not be cooperative and let you buy the international ticket, you may have to wait in line to buy one from an agent.

    Good luck!

  7. Milan is a very big train station. You can buy any tickets at any hoers at the tickets office 10 min before train leave.

    Don't worry you have time.

  8. you can try to buy on ebay.

  9. Buy at the station the train in April of 2007 was the # 23 and went strait into Lago Cumo(Lake Como) and then into Switzerland took less then a hr total.
