Here is my suggestion.  Go to your pet shop and ask for a ribbon snake.  If they have none, I bet they can order one. If they cannot order one they are a pathetic pet shop.  Go somewhere else.  Ribbon snakes are a type of garter snake found mainly down south.  Their markings are very similar.  And the ribbon snake is cheap to buy and cheap to feed,  Mine was $15.  They usually are around $20.  I put mine in his small tank, and he has a water bowl.  Once a week I go to the pet shop and buy feeder fish that are about one inch long and put them in his bowl, and he eats them all.  And it is very fun to watch.  And they are very docile snakes.
