  1. ebay?

  2. Try Craig's list - just be sure to know how to make sure the saddle fits your horse.

  3. Check the classified in your local paper

  4. At the second-hand, decently priced, quality western saddle store...

    Duh.

  5. We have had very good luck with craigslist.org.  If that doesn't work, look for a tack shop near you, they usually sell used saddles.  You may be able to trade a different saddle, if you have one that doesn't fit your horse.

  6. put up ads to see if anyone is selling one or you could check your local saddler to see if they have any

  7. You should check amazon, or your tack shop. I know amazon is very risky since you can't see the saddle but if you buy it from a person you could maybe set up a return policy. GOOD LUCK!

  8. If you take lessons from a trainer ask if they have one for sale, my teacher has used ones that she'll give a good deal on to her students.  Some trainers are able to order from wholesale cataloges too (my teacher helped me get a great deal on a full tack package)  Visiting a tack store can let you get a hands-on opportunity to see what is out there, then you can look for that particular saddle on e-bay.  Several people who ride with me have purchased saddles on e-bay, and have been very pleased with them.

  9. I've bought several saddles on ebay.  Not sure what you mean by inexpensive, because you can buy a good saddle and still not pay a grand for one.

The last one I bought was a fully buckstitched Circle Y from the late 1960's.  It needed a little work, but I could do that myself and was VERY happy with the finished work.  The gal I bought it from couldn't believe the change in the saddle.
