I am going to study abroad in Florence, Italy for 4 months and I wanted to know where I could buy a good cheap cellphone with prepaid service. I would prefer TIM service provider, but I would also settle for Vodafone.

  1. I've gone to europe also for months at a time, and what I normally do is just walk into a mobile phone shop and ask about their pre-pay plans (no contract), when you go into the shop they can really explain everything in detail and make sure you're getting the right phone for your needs.  I've never had any problems, I still have my phones from England and Switzerland. lol

  2. I just studied abroad in Florence, and I found it a lot easier to just buy a simcard there. If you already have a cell phone from the states, just have them unlock it for international calls before you leave, then go to a cell phone store in florence and buy a sim card. I got mine for 20 euros, as opposed to buying a phone, where the cheapest I saw was 45 euros. after you get the simcard, you put money on it, and they charge you a small fee for each call you make, but incoming calls are free.

have fun in italy! florence is beautiful!

  3. Get Tim, much better in Italy and you can get it anywhere... even the airport.

The Chip should not be more than 10euros, as for the phone, depends what you get.

You will find them for sale at newstands, supermarkets and TIM shops everywhere.
