Does anyone know what stores might sell paper making kits or where I can buy one on the internet? Also, do you know of any good books about making paper? Thanks!

  1. I don't know of any kits, but I make paper from old used paper. It doesn't matter if there is writing on it. Sort your used paper by color and soak it in water overnight.

Work outside or in the basement where it doesn't matter if you get things all wet. Tear your paper into strips and blend in a blender with water until it's like thin cream of wheat. This is slurry.

Make molds by cutting a rectangle of window screen, backed with a rectangle of quarter inch screen (aka hardware cloth) and seal the edges with duct tape.

Pour your slurry into a wide pan like a clean dishpan or cat litter box. Dip a mold in and pull it up flat, screen side up. Jiggle it a little to spread the slurry. Dry it for a day or so on a rack like a piece of lattice or a plastic lawn chair. Peel it off the mold and there is your paper.
