i live in new york too and you have to cross over the bridge into canada to get poutine, here in the states they dont know what they are doing, the real  mccoy original made in canada is traditionally handcut fries, cheese curds and beef gravy, and here in the states i have seen it made with frozen fries, cottage cheese and gravy, fries, shredded mozzarella and gravy, the gravy is usually canned and the fries frozen, it does not compare to real poutine

  In the East Village, it's served at Pommes Frites on Second Avenue and St Mark's Place (this isn't a restaurant - there are very few seats- it's more of a takeout place - all they serve is fries - great fries - with lots of different toppings - theyre served in a paper cone, so they're easy to eat while you walk.- a great way to sample poutine)
