Where can I buy a house in the state of New York?

I would like to buy a house in New York, but I'm not sure where to look first. My price range is between $250,000 and $350,000. Where should I start?

You don't want to buy a house in the city. There are houses in the Spring Valley area and in Nyack that are pretty cheap and pretty good. These are close to the Palisades Mall, really big mall.

I'm sure there are a number in that range for sale in NY.  You could start by looking on the Internet.  It would be wise to narrow it down to a few areas first though.

To be in that price range you will need to look in the more rural areas, Tuxedo, Troy, the areas near Vermont.  You can purchase a lot of land for $250,000 and I would suggest purchasing land and building a house.
