Where can I buy a normal (NOT PLASMA/FLAT SCREEN) TV these days?

I've just bought a house. Up until now I've been living in rented accommodation, making do with a 14" portable TV. Now that I'm moving to a proper house, I want a decent sized TV, but apart from the fact that I can't afford to spend a fortune on it, I don't actually LIKE flat screen TVs, they just look like computer monitors to me. I want an "old fashioned" normal TV, preferably with a black surround (anything I've found so far is silver and looks pretty cheap and tacky). You wouldn't think it would be so difficult, but everything is huge, ridiculously expensive plasma flat screen...........it seems you can't buy "normal" TVs anymore!!

  1. ebay or a second-hand TV shop are your only hope.

  2. They don't have to be huge, or expensive, but really why would you want an old one - apart from the look of the actual box, flat screens give a much better picture and will allow you much more scope for where you want to put it.  You may also find an old style one doesn't work in a few years when everything goes digital.

If you're h**l bent on an old style one, maybe ebay or a retro shop, or even a car boot/garage sale would be a good place to try... I wish I'd read this question a week ago, before chucking out my old tv - I'd have sold it to you!
