Where can I buy an '88 Pontiac Fiero GT with a T-top?

My mom got a 1986 Fiero GT, intentioned for me, but it has a 4-speed manual which I can't drive, and I certainly don't want to practice in the Fiero. Also, my mom loves the car so she's going to keep it.

In compensation, Dad said we'd look for a 1988 GT with the T-top for me, being my favorite Fiero. We've looked all over the web, and most are either too expensive or too far away. Automatic transmissions are preferred, but we can convert a manual. Also, A/C is highly regarded, as are the other options. The more options, the better! My price limit is about $4,000. I'm located in Southern Idaho, and we are willing to travel through Idaho's bordering states/provinces and some other nearby locations. If you or you know of someone that's selling the car I'm looking for, please let me know! Thanks!

Also, if there is a T-top and/or Targa top conversion kit, please let me know. That will work as well!

  1. The 1988 year is the most desirable year and was only half a year in production making them somewhat rare, and one with t-tops will make it harder to find yet. The things you list required, AT, A/C, etc, all in working order plus the car in good condition is going to be virtually impossible to find for under 4k. I know this because I'm a Fiero fanatic myself and have owned three plus my current GT.

I live in Oregon and if you're willing to drive over here there are quite a few good ones from time to time on Portland's Craigslist. It's where I bought mine.

Check this ad out; it doesn't have t-tops, but it's a red auto 88 GT for $3500.

Better call quick because it's an awesome car. Good luck bud.

  2. An '88 GT with T-tops will be impossible to find for under $4,000 unless you are willing to buy a car that needs a lot of work. This generally isn't a problem; there are a lot of Fiero parts available from places like The Fiero Store, Rodney Dickman, and West Coast Fiero, but the parts that nobody makes are the T-top parts. You will not be able to find replacement seals. Since a poorly-maintained car will generally have leaking T-top seals, you will be stuck.

I would suggest setting your aim a bit lower... look for an 88 GT that has everything you want except the T-tops. Automatics are generally considered undesirable so that should keep the price down. You should be able to find an 88 GT for $3,000-$4,000... much less if you're willing to buy a car that needs a lot of work (paint, suspension, etc).

Maybe some day when you have more money you'll find a T-top '88 GT, or a wrecked T-top car that you can remove the roof from and install on yours!
