Additional electric car brands that are Neighborhood Electric Vehicles (NEV).  ZENN a quaint little company up in Canada makes a nice 2 seat-er hatch back car.  There is also Miles Electric with their ZX40 has 4 seats.  GEM also makes several models of NEV.  There is a company in Salem OR selling a Chinese made car, Revolution Electric Cars

    Both Miles and ZENN are working on larger freeway capable cars to be in the showroom sometime before 2010.

  3. If you live in the US, there are only 2 cars I am aware of that are currently being sold and are 100% electric. One is the Tesla Roadster and the other is the ZAP Zebra.

    The Tesla Roadster is a 2 seat sports car that does 0-60 in under 5 seconds and has a range of about 200 miles. It retails for about $100,000 and is scheduled for delivery in the next few months, but the entire first run is already sold out.

    The ZAP Xebra is a small, 3 wheeled vehicle (it is technically considered a motorcycle by the DOT) that tops out at 40 mph and only has a range of about 25 miles per charge (assuming you do not plug it in every time it's parked). It retails for about $12,000 and is available now.

    There are several companies developing all electric vehicles that are more advanced than the Zebra and cheaper than the Tesla, but they are still a few years off. Major manufacturers are also developing plug in hybrids that will go 40-50 miles at low speeds (40 mph or so I believe) without using their gas engines that will be available in the next few years.

    The technology is available to make powerful, efficient electric motors, but the battery technology is still a work in progress.

  4. not a good idea because gas stations are not prepaired yet and if you get caught with dead batteries on the road  you call a towing.
