Where can I buy asperagus seeds or plants?

I want to grow my own asperagus. however, I don't think that i have ever seen any big stores, such as walmart, selling them. ( i am not talking about the asperagus that are for cooking.)

I know one site that sells the seeds, but is it actually good? do regular nurseries sell the seeds or roots?

can i put aspergus in water, will they grow roots? i doubt it though.

  1. try a place called territorial seed company. they sell seeds and crowns. direct seeding is not recommended. seeds need to be started indoors and need to be kept at 65 to 80 degrees. you need to start the seeds 60 to 90 days before

your last  frost .they take about 21 days to germinate. if you want crowns you need to order them before march 15. they are shipped in mid april, they can't ship to calif. or hawaii

    though. their e-mail is territorialseed.com

  2. http://www.jerseyasparagus.com/

The best supplier I've ever used. High quality plants.

You should still be able to get seeds, but if you want crowns (roots) you'll have to wait until next spring.

For the cost vs. time - I'd buy crowns. They'll produce much sooner.

And, no, asparagus will not root in water.

  3. I have never heard of asparagus seeds. The ones I have grown have been planted with tubers/roots. It also takes three good years before you get any worth eating. You also need a deeply worked patch of ground for them. Byee

  4. Are youtalking about asparagas ferns by chance?? If so they do sell them at WalMart and Home depot..but the ferns themself..ferns do not start from seed
