Rick - I'm sorry to tell you that I wouldn't know where around HCMC to look for a peacock or turtle that is still alive. However, I can tell you a few places where such things are served in a soup. ;-)

I have no clue about the chemicals either. Perhaps there is a shop in Au Dong market. After all, just about anything sold in Vietnam is likely sold at Au Dong Market.
