Question:

Where can I buy dirt cheap furniture?

I know the model homes around town sell their unused furniture but I don't know where to get it. I need furniture that is simplistic and not all sophisticated or pricey. I live in an apartment by myself and I don't want bulky couches. I would like to know where to find lightly used couches or a sectional. Thanks for the comments:)

  1. Run a small ad in your local newspaper describing what you're looking for.  When people buy new furniture, the store hauls their old furniture away and they get nothing for it, if they see they could get a little something for it they may call and take you up on your deal.

  2. Try places like JYSK or IKEA perhaps?

  3. Make a regular check of thrift outlets such as Salvation Army, Volunteers of America and Vietnam Vets.  Attend garage sales and local estate or dispersal auctions.  Check Craigslist on a regular basis.  Model homes today tend to use EXACTLY the sophisticated, non-simplistic stuff you want to avoid, and especially in today's tough market for builders, they'll use what they've got for as long as they can and not just unload it.

  4. The model home furniture will be in a furniture store somewhere, and you will not get it dirt cheap.

Furniture has a terrible resale value, though, and that is good for you!  Try Craigslist or local garage sales.  With both, be patient, selective and negotiate for your lowest price.

  5. check in ikea or at ikea.com

they have a lot of furniture deals that seem perfect for people on a  budget and even if they are very simple pieces, they still look nice.

if not, check 2nd hand stores. sometimes they have really cool, unique things, they may need fixing or updating but they're cheap. a tip i heard on tv for when buying fabric furniture is too smell it to see if its in good condition.

  6. When my husband and I were first married, we were so broke, so I bought a lot of our furniture from Goodwill or Salvation Army. Another good place are stores like Montgomery Wards, Target, etc. Just buy a piece at a time and it shouldn't hurt the budget.

Oh, and also watch the sides of the roads on trash day. Honestly, I found more good things people just throw away that I used in our home (after a thorough cleaning and/or refinishing) or in the yard.

Hope this helps! Good luck. ♥ ∞

  7. The best place to find dirt cheap, beutiful furniture is craigslist.org. Just input the state and city your in and you will find litearally thousands of people who want to get rid or their hardly used furniture. That is how i furnished my house ona budget and bought my son a nursery.
