Question:

Where can I buy dragonfly eggs or larvae (nymphs)?

I would like to get some to combat the bugs from h**l. (Mosquitos.)

We have a great woodsy area around our property and unfortunately some of it is always wet from the side-pools of a protected creek. I'm sure the dragonslies would love it and hopefully enjoy the mosquito buffet (vs. the mosquitos enjoying the human buffet).

They'd need to be OK for Southeast, north Georgia area.

Is it possible to buy them? In bulk?

  1. hello. it would be ideal if you had an aquatic insect net and could collect your own dragonfly and damselfly naiads/nymphs (i forget which is the appropriate term). that way you wouldn't be accidentally introducing an invasive species. plus, the naiads/nymphs are very voracious and efficient eaters. anyway, here are two sites that might be helpful.

search 'dragonfly' and choose the dragonfly nymphs living specimens. it has more info there on species and what not.

they have damselfly nymphs for sale. no mention of the species though.

and yes, hellgrammites are dobsonfly larvae, and they're not the nicest looking things around.

good luck getting some. hope this helped!

  2. Dragonfly larvae are called hellgrammites and are very popular as fish bait.  You can check local bait stores for them or you can get them shipped to you from this place.
