Question:

Where can I buy medication to de-worm my cat without a prescription?

I believe the medication is called Droncit and some websites require a prescription and others don't. Is there somewhere for me to pick it up at a local pet store so I don't have to wait for shipping? Or will I need a prescription in order to get it? Thanks in advance.

  1. I wouldn't trust a prescription drug that came from somewhere that should require a prescription but didn't.  Plus, a vet can determine what kind of works (tape or round or both) and the correct dosage based on your cat.  Plus, the vet should have some on hand, so less waiting there too.

  2. The correct way to do it, for the safety of the cat, is to take a stool sample to the vet, that way, you know exactly what the cat has, or does not have.

Droncit, as with most cat medications, is given by the weight of the cat, so as the other posters have said, unless you really know what your doing, you wouldn't know how much to give, and it may harm the cat. And I would not trust getting something, you don't know where it came from, or know what the quality really is, or even if it is expired. At least with going to the vet, every exam and treatment is documented, and this info is very helpful to the vet, to look back on, when a prob should arise.

On our horse board, a vet tech recommended, that people keep track of the treatments/shots, etc of their horses and pets, because in an emergency, the vet needs to know all this, and as she put it, most people are too hysterical, to know or remember the info. If the treatments are always done at the vet, the info is right there. :-)

Another plus of going to the vet, is they will also perform an exam, which will catch something early on.

  3. you can probably get it from a vet's office for about $10...its really the only stuff that works

  4. Well, my husband goes online to get de-worm pills for our outdoor cat.

    Last yr. it worked.

However this year it does NOT seem to be working.

So with this being said, I strongly advise you to just take them to the vet instead, unless you REALLY know exactly what your doing.

I will take my own advice [lol] and take him~poor lil' critter to the vet THIS week.

Seriously, they just are helpless beautiful creatures--and when it comes to their health, they deserve the best of the BEST treatment :o)

  5. Drs Foster and Smith have almost everything you could need.  Also if you're in the northeast there's a vet who has a vending booth at many CFA cat shows.

  6. you can get it at any pet store. like pet-co, walmart, kmart. its called nemex-2

  7. meds for de-worming has to be done according to the weight and age of the cat.

This is a better job for a VET.

I have cats for years and this is one job that I wouldn't do.

Remember to kill the worms they have to use something that is poison to them.. give your cat too much and you can make your cat sick or even die.

    RETHINK THIS ONE

    good luck
